Line up for an iPhone 4 and raise money for cancer research.

That's the idea behind Kerry Morrison and Chris McGuire's 24-hour vigil outside Vancouver's downtown Apple downtown store where Apple's new iPhone 4 starts selling Friday morning.

Self-described digerati, whose day job is building web sites and helping companies with their online marketing efforts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Morrison and McGuire are combining their quest to be first in line for the iPhone with fundraising for a favourite charity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Kayak for a Cure.

They'll share their skills with people who stop by or email for help, asking only for a donation to the charity that raises money for cancer research and help for cancer patients.

"For the 24hrs that we'll be camping out, we've decided to offer our services to anyone who comes by,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," McGuire and Morrison say on their web site. "Need some help with your website? Done. Have some questions about selling goods or services online? It's what we do.

"Require help diagnosing a problem with your email? We can fix that. Almost anything in the digital sphere we can help with...and will. The cost of all this? Pay what you'd like,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all the money will go to a charity we help with called Kayak For A Cure."

Morrison and McGuire set up outside the Pacific Centre on Granville Street at 10 a.m. today and in little more than an hour they had already raised $1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000.

"We have quite a lot of work to do," McGuire told me when I called to see how their vigil was going. "We didn't think we'd have this response.

"We're almost up to 1,000 bucks and hopefully we're going to raise a lot more."

McGuire said Pacific Centre won't allow them to wait inside by the Apple store.

"Tomorrow morning they'll let us into the centre and we can line up in there," he said.
