Beginning at the top, L’Acadie Vineyards 2006 Traditional Method Brut is my favourite for flavour and is a one of those medal winning Nova Scotia wines. The 2006 Brut took a silver in the 2009 All Canadian Wine Championships and a Bronze in the 2009 Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards and Gold in the 2009 Atlantic Wine Awards. L’Acadie uses the traditional methods of champagne making described by owner/ winemaker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bruce Ewert, as a sparkling wine produced by a natural secondary fermentation in the bottle. The wine has fine persistent bubbles. Aging on the yeast lees in the bottle produces complexity and creaminess and the celebrated yeast flavours. Each bottle is then riddled and disgorged to remove sediment - the same as is done in Champagne France. The 2006 :L’Acadie Brut was aged in the bottle for three years. The price at $39.95 reflects the time and effort that went into producing this excellent wine.
Make subscribing to this wine column your first New Year’s Resolution and get an email alert of new updates. Got left over New Year’s bubbly? Look for the Champagne Vinaigrette recipe in my next column almost as decadent as Icewine Vinaigrette.
Find other Nova Scotia wines.
